Support
Something on the road?
Write to support@readmiles.com. The mailbox goes straight to the developer, and there's no ticket form to fill in first.
ReadMiles has no accounts, so there is nothing to sign in to, no password to reset and no support login to give anyone. If you get a new iPhone, sign in to the same iCloud and your library follows you.
Frequently asked
How do I record what I read?
Two ways, and they carry equal weight. Start a session and the timer runs, in the background and through a locked screen; when you finish, the app asks which page you stopped on. Or use a quick mark: a stepper, presets +5 / +10 / +25, or type the page directly. If you forgot the timer, add a session after the fact with its date, duration and pages.
The page count doesn't match my edition
Catalogs disagree about editions, and sometimes they don't know the page count at all. You can correct the number while adding the book, and any time afterwards in Edit book. Progress is recalculated from your records, so nothing is lost.
What counts as a day on the road?
A day counts when it has at least one progress record of any kind — a session, a quick mark or a manual entry. Today without a record doesn't break the streak: the day isn't over, so counting starts from yesterday. Days are compared by your local calendar date, which is why crossing time zones doesn't burn a streak.
Why doesn't a quick mark add reading time?
A quick mark says where you are, not how long you read, so it adds pages and the day but no minutes. Time comes from every record that has a duration — timer sessions and manual entries where you filled the duration in. Speed is counted from timer sessions only: that's the only number the app measures itself rather than takes on trust.
How do audiobooks work?
An audiobook is tracked by timecode: position and total length in hours and minutes. It counts towards time, days on the road and finished books, and it is never converted into pages or miles — an hour of audio is not a page count, and pretending otherwise would spoil the statistics.
iCloud isn't syncing
Sync has no switch in the app — it works whenever iCloud is available. Settings shows the current state: “iCloud sync is on”, “Checking iCloud”, “Syncing with iCloud”, “Everything is on this device” or “iCloud is out of reach”. If it says one of the last two:
- check that the device is signed in to iCloud, in Settings at the top of the list;
- check that iCloud Drive is on and ReadMiles is enabled in the list of apps using iCloud;
- make sure both devices use the same Apple ID;
- give it a network and a minute — the first sync of a large library takes a while, and it continues while the app is open.
Nothing is lost in the meantime: the app works locally and sends everything once iCloud comes back. If two devices were offline and both marked pages, both records arrive — position is derived from the records, not stored as a single number that could overwrite the other.
Which files can I import?
CSV exports from Goodreads (Account → My Books → Import and export → Export Library) and from The StoryGraph. The format is recognized from the file's own header, so a renamed file still works. Before anything is written you see a preview: how many books will be added and how many duplicates were skipped — both duplicates inside the file and books already in your library.
I imported my library and the statistics stayed empty
That's expected. An export contains books and dates, not the days you actually read, so the import creates books and readings but no progress records. Pages, hours, the heat map and the streak start from your first session or page mark in the app. Books you finished do count towards a yearly “books” goal, since they carry a finish date.
A few more things worth knowing about import: a missing page count arrives as zero and waits for you to fill it in; covers are fetched by ISBN after the import, so books without an ISBN stay without a cover; a re-read (Read Count above one) is imported as a single reading, because the file has no dates for the others. If the result isn't what you wanted, “Undo import” removes exactly that batch.
Can I export my data?
Not in version 1.0 — export is on the roadmap, not in this release. Your data isn't locked away, though: it lives in your own iCloud, and the privacy page explains how to remove it.
What can the widgets do?
On the home screen: Currently reading (small and medium), Streak and goal (small), and Pages and session (small) with a button that adds pages without opening the app and a second one that jumps into a session. On the lock screen there's a circular and an inline version of your days on the road.
The step of the “+N” button — 5, 10 or 25 — is a widget setting: touch and hold the widget, choose Edit Widget, and pick a number. A tap from the widget creates the same kind of record as a quick mark in the app and triggers the same recalculation, so statistics, streak and goals stay in step. iOS decides when widgets redraw, so a number may take a moment to catch up.
How does the evening reminder behave?
There's exactly one notification in the app. It's off until you turn it on, it asks for permission at that moment, and it arrives at the time you choose. On days when your daily goal is already met, it stays quiet. If you said no to notifications earlier, iOS keeps that answer — the app sends you to iOS Settings to change it.
Does it work offline?
Sessions, marks, manual entries, statistics, goals, widgets, editing and manual book adding all work with no network. Only two things need one: searching the catalog and downloading covers. When search can't reach the network it says so and offers “Add manually”. iCloud sync also waits for a network, and catches up on its own once there is one.
The scanner asks for the camera, but I never gave it
Camera permission is asked the first time you open the scanner or take a cover photo, never during onboarding. If you declined, iOS won't ask again — the app shows an explanation with a button to iOS Settings. Picking a cover from your photo library needs no permission at all: the system picker hands over just the one image.
Can I track in percent instead of pages?
Yes — the quick mark sheet has a Page / Percent switch, and the choice is remembered per book. The underlying record is still pages, so switching back changes nothing about your history.
Several books at once? A limit on books?
Read as many books in parallel as you like — each one keeps its own progress, speed and forecast. There is no limit on the number of books in the library, no subscription and no in-app purchases.
Languages and themes
The app speaks English and Russian and follows your iOS language; you can change it for ReadMiles alone in iOS Settings. The theme can follow the system or be pinned to light or dark in the app's settings. Distances follow the language and there is no unit switch: miles in English, kilometres in Russian.
How do I delete everything?
Deleting the app removes the local data; the iCloud copy is removed in Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → ReadMiles → Delete Data. Details are on the privacy page.
Reporting a bug
Send it to support@readmiles.com with as much of this as you have:
- what you did, what you expected, and what happened instead;
- whether it happens every time or once;
- the device and iOS version, and the app version (Settings → General → iPhone Storage → ReadMiles);
- a screenshot or a screen recording, if the problem is visible;
- for sync problems: whether both devices are on the same Apple ID, and what the sync card in the app's settings says.
Please don't send anything you'd rather keep private — an email is enough, and no logs are collected from your phone. Feature requests are welcome at the same address.
